Navasota: So Much, So Close

History

Navasota has a close, friendly, caring community of people who live and work here, with roots going back well over 150 years when the city was founded by cotton farmers, ranchers and later the arrival of the railroads.  Navasota has dozens of registered historic sites and beautifully restored Victorian homes throughout town and down Washington Avenue and the City has been awarded Train Town USA designation by the Union Pacific Railroad. Historic Downtown Navasota provides visitors and residents alike a range of retail and dining options, while celebrating Navasota's historic charm and flourishing arts community.

​The Arts

​Horlock Art Gallery & History Museum - Offers the Navasota Artists in Residence program, giving three artists the opportunity to live and create art at the Horlock House. The house features living quarters, studio space, and gallery space, combining to create an unique experience and atmosphere for the artists and visitors.

The Gallery Downtown - Located in Historic Downtown Navasota with over 6,000 square feet of original art provided by local artists, and original music provided by Texas songwriters and bands.

​Navasota Theatre Alliance - Began in 1985 as an effort to bring the joy of community theatre to Navasota and surrounding towns. Since the early 1990s, the Theatre has thrived in its donated historic downtown Navasota building becoming a respected, family-friendly entertainment venue.

​Events

​Navasota hosts several annual events, such as the Texas Birthday Bash, Kid Fish, Navasota Freedom Festival, Sounds of Summer concert series, a monthly Farmers' Market, and Home for the Holidays. Recreation

Navasota Public Library - The library hosts a variety of programs throughout the month such as story time and craft nights, yoga classes, and movie nights.

Golf - Navasota is home to Pecan Lakes Golf Club, providing a full golf course, exercise room, swimming pool, and a conference room for private events.

August Horst Recreation Park - The Park includes 2 softball fields, 1 youth football field, tennis courts, picnic tables, barbeque pits, and an abundance of open area recreation.
